Zeitgeist’s Jesus Myth Refuted — Introduction

ZeitgeistCrap

Over a decade ago, I wrote a refutation of Zeitgeist: Part 1, which attacked Christianity with claim that Jesus was simply an imitation of more ancient pagan mythology and even went as far as to claim that he likely never existed. Even though it is years later, I think it necessary to update it, mostly due to my conversion to Catholicism from Seventh-Day Adventism. Though I do stand by the main point that the film’s claims about the origins of Christianity fail to pass even a basic test of scrutiny. One does not have to be a Catholic (or even a Christian at all) to do the research on this matter.

Among the listed parallels between Jesus and the pagan gods:

  • Born on December 25th
  • Born of a virgin
  • Star in the east
  • Adorned by three kings
  • Teacher at twelve years of age
  • Baptized at age 30
  • Had 12 disciples
  • Performed miracles
  • Called the “Lamb of God”/”The Light”/”King of Kings”/”Alpha and Omega”
  • Crucified
  • Dead for 3 days
  • Resurrected
  • Worshiping on Sunday

These claims make their rounds on the internet every-so-often, though I personally notice them more around Christmas time. Even though they have been long refuted by even some non-Christians, they are persistent. Even more recently in a Catholic Facebook group that I am in, someone posted a YouTube vid of Zeitgeist, Part 1 saying that his unbelieving significant-other challenged him with it. One thing it does prove, however, is that even so-called “skeptics” are as capable of being just as gullible as they believe Christians to be; skeptical of Christianity, but will uncritically swallow any Anti-Christian claim. Do such people even have the right to be called “skeptics”?
